Your demand letter, sent for you, $99

Short answerOur demand letter service drafts a formal demand from your invoice, contract and emails, sends it after you approve it, and follows up with the customer. It costs $99 to start. If the customer still does not pay, we can take it to small claims for $299 in total through the hearing, with no cut of what you recover.

Key takeaways

1

$99 to start: eligibility check, the demand letter, sending and follow-up.

2

Nothing goes out until you approve the letter. You keep control of the customer relationship.

3

If they still do not pay, small claims is $299 in total through the hearing, court costs at cost.

4

We are not a law firm. If you want a lawyer's letterhead, that is an optional add-on.

Who is this for?

It is for a business owed money on an invoice the customer keeps ignoring. You have sent reminders, maybe called, and nothing has moved. You want a formal letter on the record, sent properly and followed up, without writing it yourself or paying a lawyer by the hour.

It fits best when the customer is a business you can identify, the amount is under your state's small claims limit, and you have the invoice and some written record of the work. If you only need a template, our free demand letter builder is the place to start.

How does it work?

  1. Send us what you have

The invoice, any contract, quote or purchase order, and the emails or texts about the job. A short note on what you have already tried helps.

  2. We check the claim

We confirm the customer's legal business name, that the amount fits the court limit, and that the claim is worth chasing. If it is not, we tell you before you pay for more.

  3. You approve the letter

We draft the demand from your own documents: the amount, what it is for, a pay-by date and the next step. Nothing is sent until you approve it.

  4. We send it and follow up

The letter goes out by email and by mail, and we follow up before the deadline. If the customer replies with a plan or an offer, you decide what to accept.

  5. If they still do not pay

You can move to small claims. We prepare the filing paperwork, arrange service and prepare you for the hearing. See small claims for an unpaid invoice for how that stage works.

What goes in the letter?

A demand letter that works is short and specific. Ours name the customer's legal entity, the invoice number and amount, what the money is for, the date it was due, the date to pay by, how to pay, and the step that follows if it is not paid. Our guide on what a demand letter is covers each part.

What we will not do

  • Act as your lawyer or give legal advice. Easy Small Claims is not a law firm.
  • Threaten anything the law does not allow, such as criminal charges over an unpaid bill.
  • Promise a result. Some customers pay after the letter and some do not.
  • Attend a hearing for you. If the claim goes to court, someone from your business attends, and we prepare you.

Questions, answered

How much does a demand letter service cost?

Easy Small Claims charges $99 to start, which covers checking the claim, drafting the demand letter from your documents, sending it and following up. If the customer still does not pay and you want to file, the total through the hearing is $299, with court costs passed through at cost. We take no cut of what you recover.

Is a demand letter from a service as good as one from a lawyer?

For most unpaid invoices, what moves a customer is a clear letter with the exact amount, a firm date and a credible next step, and that does not need a law firm. A lawyer's letterhead can add weight when a customer has ignored you more than once, which is why we offer it as an optional add-on.

How long does it take to send the letter?

We draft the letter once we have your invoice, any contract or purchase order and the emails about the job. You review it, ask for changes if needed and approve it. It goes out after your approval, by email and by mail, and the follow-up starts from the date on the letter.

What if the customer disputes the invoice?

You decide how to respond. If the customer raises a real problem with the work, a payment plan or a partial settlement may be the better outcome, and we will lay out the options. If the dispute turns on contract terms or the customer threatens a counterclaim, we will suggest you speak to a lawyer.
